Friday brought some relatively quiet time for Britney Spears, who spent the afternoon shopping in West Hollywood at the boutique of Monique Lhuillier – who designed Spears’s wedding dresses – and the Fred Segal and the Betsey Johnson stores.
At all three places she appeared to do more browsing than buying as the President’s Day weekend was just beginning.
On the domestic front, her family is caring for the pop star. Father Jamie Spears has been granted a co-conservatorship over his daughter’s affairs, while brother Bryan is acting a co-trustee of his sister’s revocable trust.
(A Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner placed Spears under a conservatorship at the beginning of this month. Such conservatorships are established when a court determines an individual cannot take care of herself or her affairs.)
Mother Lynne Spears, who departed Los Angeles earlier this week, had been part of the attempted healing process, spending rare quality time with her daughter – cooking for and shopping with her.
In terms of the calendar, Saturday marks an unusual anniversary: It’s exactly a year since the pop star turned heads by shaving hers.

In what is likely her greatest role to date, Lindsay Lohan plays Marilyn Monroe between the sheets – literally – in the new spring fashion issue of New York magazine.
Recreating Monroe’s legendary 1962 final photo shoot for Bert Stern with the veteran lensman himself, Lohan posed for the spread on Feb. 5 at the Hotel Bel-Air.
When it came to being nude before the camera, “I was comfortable with it,” says Lohan, 21 (Monroe was 36 in 1962, the year she died) – though Lindsay does admit to having done “250 crunches” the night before the shoot.
There was also no avoiding the parallels between Monroe’s tragic fate – dead from an accidental overdose of prescription medicines – and that, recently, of Heath Ledger’s.
“They are both prime examples of what this industry can do to someone,” says Lohan.
When it is pointed out to Lohan, who has been in rehab three times, that the possibility may exist of a similar fate for her, the young actress replies with a tinge of annoyance: “I don’t know. I’m not them. But I sure as hell wouldn’t let it happen to me.”

After serving as the spokesmodel for the Jenny Craig weight-loss program for the past three years, Kirstie Alley is stepping aside.
“Although Kirstie will not appear in future advertising endeavors for us, she does remain on Jenny Craig’s maintenance program and is confident that our program has helped her incorporate positive lifestyle changes that should last a lifetime,” Scott Parker, vice-president of marketing for Jenny Craig, tells PEOPLE.
“Now that Kirstie has ‘passed her maintenance baton’ to Valerie [Bertinelli,]” adds Parker, referring to the inclusion of the former One Day at a Time star to the ad campaign beginning last August, “you’ll see a new campaign with a new celebrity client emerge, in 2008 … one that promotes health with Queen Latifah
Citing Alley’s “losing 75 lbs. and maintaining that weight loss for over a year,” Parker goes on to say, “She’s proud to have been able to participate in the creation of Jenny’s award-winning, integrated advertising campaign, and says she’s thankful for the opportunity to help so many other people lose weight and keep it off.”

For Jessica Simpson, Valentine’s Day was spent Texas-style: The singer and beau Tony Romo dined together at Nove Italiano restaurant in Dallas.
“All eyes were on them,” one insider says of the singer and the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. “But they sat in a corner booth to try and get some privacy.”
Simpson was wearing a sexy crimson dress, and the pair were seen being very affectionate with each other. The couple kick-started their romantic meal with a bottle of Cristal champagne, followed by spaghetti bolognaise.
As for dessert, the sweet of the day was on the menu, of course: Simpson and Romo cozily shared chocolate-covered strawberries along with chocolate mousse before heading out through the restaurant’s special VIP exit (also known as the kitchen), where they darted off in a waiting limo.
